1968 - 2001 Corvette
and
The COPO Cars

The COPO Cars: SUPERCAR -- Chevrolet already made the fastest cars on the street, but thanks to their racing efforts, they had a full catalog of banzai parts that would make their cars go even faster. If you knew the right numbers, and could get to the right salespeople at the right dealerships, you could order a street-legal racecar direct from the factory. They were called COPOs, for Central Office Production Order.
One more reason to love the sixties! 1968-present Corvette: THE MAKO SHARK AND BEYOND -- 47 years old and still going strong! America’s first sportscar is still getting better, through five more generations, and a few "ultra" cars, like the C-5 and the Z/06 Corvette.

CORVETTE
america's sports car

For over 50 years, the Chevrolet Corvette has been the leading—and often the only—American sports car. Even challengers as strong as the Dodge Viper and the Ford-engined Shelby Cobras have failed to dislodge the fiberglass-bodied two-seater from its pre-eminent position in the U.S. marketplace.

This program traces the full story of the marque and features every significant Corvette model—both on road and track —to show why it has reigned for more than fifty years as "America's Sportscar".

The program tours the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky; features Corvettes in action on race tracks and at over 230mph on the open desert roads of Nevada; and gains access to the Chevrolet film library to find out why the always-charismatic 'Vette has become a true "American automotive icon".
