1976 Le Mans 24hrs. ' Spirit of Le Mans ' #76 IMSA Corvette John Greenwood / USA Bernard Darniche / F * During the fuel crisis of 1976, the organizers of the endurance race at LeMans were worried. The number of competitors who had signed up for the race was way down compared to past years and so were spectator ticket sales. The call went out to John Greenwood to see if he would bring one of his crowd pleasing, brightly colored Corvettes. This car would eventually hit 215.6 mph (346,97 km/h) at Le Mans before retiring early with mechanical problems. |

1977 Sebring 12hrs. #76 Rick Mancuso / USA Burt Greenwood / USA John Greenwood / USA * This example is one of the lesser known of the Greenwood Corvettes of the era. It is actually the first of the 'customer' cars built by John Greenwood specifically for a customer, in this case being Rick Mancuso. Mancuso’s family owned a Chicago-area Chevrolet dealership and later, a high-end exotic car dealership. The car was raced by Mancuso about 1976, frequently with the Mancuso Chevy dealership sponsoring and usually with the Chicago skyline painted on the hood. |
